You should be able to alter that. In your profile settings. Let me know if you still have the problem and I will try and fix it.

In the forum you click register to sign up for it. Once in the register page you can creat your username.

Very odd yes. I made a non admin profile to check it out, and received no problem. I've no idea whats wrong. Did you check under your spam folder?
