Well, you should never be paying full out for anything.  Top up during Reio or other events that give a lot of bonus gold.

$5 during reio gets you minimum of 130% bonus gold, sometimes it's 150-200% depending on what other events are on at the same time.

So you can get 4500g for the cost of 2000g top-up if you play smart.

We actually got lucky then. The china server I checked didn't even have Pyramid in it. We had everything else they had for once, though (I think).
