I don't know how Katen's shield works, but I assume it does cancel out all debuffs until the VG attacks.
In that case, you are correct that he won't be affected by Debuffs in T1. #brukiagotrekt
I agree that he's fast for a VG, but TSI is actually faster when modded (I think).
However, the Aid rate only comes in after Demon Ichigo used his skill, and by that point most battles are decided - even more so with Katen.
The thing is that Demon Ichigo and TSI both do not have strong defensive stats.
Base is low, TSI has good growth, both have poor evo and their mods don't add too much in that regard either.
The VG here are already praised with their upgraded Skills... but against a Hikifune with upgraded skills, they are completely useless.
Ichibe's upgraded Skill gives 300% Def to the entire Team for 1 round and 30% of Max HP heal for 3 rounds AND 10 fury reduction on the enemies.
One thing that has not been discussed so far here (or I just didnt see it), is that Noza Kenny is actually a very strong, maybe the strongest, VG for PvE:
350% Skill, + Crit Rate Buff+ ATK Buff + Crit DMG Mod are quite a word in terms of damage and he might still be able to outperform TSI in terms of damage output if he skills every 2nd round.
From Zangetsu to Katen, Noza gets +18% avoid injury, 22% Damage Rate (Zangetsu gives 18% from active but passively -40 to VG), but loses 10% HP bonus.
So.. my opinion remains the same, Ichibe would be the best for PvP IMO... he adds a fair heal to the team without having to make any compromise on the other team members.
PS: Demon Ichigo has +20% speed Talent... Katen (which is the worst by far out of all decent Zanpakuto) gives 21% passively and has no active to Assaults.
If both players use Katen (again, worst case for the Assaults... I left out Hyorin/Senbon on purpose, since they don't hold a candle to Katen/Tensa otherwise), Demon Ichigo would still be slower than commonly used Assaults: Shini Kensei, Brenji, Yhwach (OK, not common, but I see him more often than I like to), Hakuteiken Byakuya... only CSB Kenny might lose out, but he's not really considered a PvP chara...

I tend to want to steer away from non-offensive tanks. I guess he could be good. Defensively, he feels awkwardly between TSI and Demon Ichigo because of that agility, so my reaction is uhhhhhhhhhh...derp.（。々°）Still would say keep him for PvE.
All he needs is a good hit from my faster Mugetsu or Berserk Renji, and he'll be fucked. Haha. :loveliness:
Oh yeah, I forgot. Katen has the shield that will clear bad effects from your vanguard, so if Bankai Rukia goes first and you survive, you are in the clear. With those prospects, Ichibe could be a good trade-off.

Katen's shield clears all those naughty debuffs and keeps them off. X)
It will stay on the vanguard until he is hit for 4% of his HP. (Or her if you still use Yachiru for some reason lol)

That shield seems pretty useless to me, tbh... whoever has Katen will get Senju sooner or later, which is gonna hit well over 4% unless the VG is WAY more stacked. Maybe even the Zanpakuto hit goes over 4%... >_>
It would be fun to see a Ultima Aizen's Skill backfire because of this, tough. xD
TSI with new skill looks amazing, no joke
Demon is too, but since you don't need him in pve, I'd avoid him, even tho you can get him at your level if you rent for a day before you buy him elsewhere
Ichibe with 3rd mod and many bond partners and zanpacto boost... he looks like a very good choice, and you also can use him for hollow souls.
My vote,
TSI if you need more power in pvp
Demon is probably not the best choice for you
Ichibe is probably who I would pick
He will help you in pvp more than noza, he will help in hollow soul map, and after bonded and stuff, he should be nearly unkillable by all but the strongest of the strong

And that is why you use not only vg but some other partners (Tejiro in my case). Oh and well made vans get speed as a bonus and not the only means to win (as you said they are not the fastest partners to use). Only bad thing in Demon for me is his low block rate (Noza can get 40% more block rate than him)

It's not very useful, but it can be situation. It will at least clear whatever is currently ailing your vanguard if you don't go first, but often that means you've already lost.
