Renji has so many uses, it doesn't really matter than he's still only gold.

Upgrade gold chars to red, increasing stats and most likely improve skill (isn't 100% sure, just a speculation)

If they make it so all gold partners could be upgraded, I think Berserk Renji and Bankai Rukia would benefit the most.  I thought it was just going to be tavern partners though.  I hope we get more information soon.

I highly doubt they will make a feature just for f2p, they are greedy as fck
