Being a long term planner myself, I would recommend getting the next available free set and ball out with it until you get to the 140 sets (go for 130 if you want to spend the gold). When I was doing my planning, they released a new set 2 months after I spent all my resources on upgrading (now obsolete) the set that I had waited months to get... And that was way before inherit was available... So guess what, you eventually get rid of that gear (had to sell for silver...). GoGames has helped a lot with inherit to make this experience for future players less painful.
Also, by saving up all those resources until you get 130 (which will take you a few months, I assume), you have lost out on all the silver being gained from daily events along the way. It adds up quickly. As a high VIP to another high VIP, take what you can as soon as you can.
Just FYI I am working on hitting 159 on my main for the 4th time (reincarnation). So I have went through your struggles and pain. I am stock piling resources now too.

I kill all 3 ES in about 1 minute, they are around lvl 95-100 so i don't think i miss too much xD
