Whats the main reason people switch to 3-2-0 or 2-3-0?

Just wanted to Know I have seen some pretty stacked Vanguards on youtube and some people who just dont bother with one at all. Would like to know peoples opinions on it. Are vanguards still viable right now or are they just bullet sponges to be taken out when the rest of your team goes down In PVP?

Stacked Vanguards are still viable and early to mid game will dominate vs low VIPS without 40K + Partners the reason late game there used less now is cause Muken and HVI exists and they can basically boost there attack to end any vanguard that exists even now.
the reason people tend to switch to 0-3-2 and 0-2-3 is cause of the damage output. Even early on f2p players tend to use this in Ryoka and ES for this very purpose but at that stage most people lack the sheer offence and Speed to viably use it but late game when you have plenty of resources and speed you can switch to it and come to the point of one shotting your opponent and Assaulters will tend to have the bulk to live a few hits in the stead of vanguard
Vanguards are still viable but it comes to the user of what they want like mentioned most late game will not actually need it since they beat people anyway so its up to the user since most vans still viable at end game usually give Defence auras for team to tank more hits cause T1 AoE is everywhere so either your van outlives the enemy entirely or on its own can take it down.

Yeah P much.
One more thing to note is that Vanguards are god awfull for PVE when it comes to damage hence Ryoka and evil spirit the only exception is Nozarashi,Banken and EX skill TSI

I was a vanguard stacker, then I took a Shy Nemu in the knee...

Erm, I was a vanguard stacker for about 3 years but at one moment I got bored of it and decided to try something new and live with it. At the end, playing without a vanguard feels hyperactive to me than with the vanguard, he (Starrk) was carrying my ass but at the same time he was a deadweight to me (no wonder he was in my formation for 3 years, rest well old dude).
The thing with Shy Nemu is that her last mod gives +30% DMG to assaulters (plus 20% from skill), that's one of the reason I went 2-3-0 to benefit the most of her 7th mod, the other reason is I find my assaulter speedy enough for that advanced formation and bulky to tank few hits, initially I lacked the firepower so going 2-3-0 helped to raise that.

It doesn't really reply to your question in the title, but I at least gave you the idea. As for the viabilty yes they are at the early game but later when you start to see the mukens in your CSB or HVIs, they become useless, they would be there just to admire those two assaulters in front of it with no hope of winning, you either need to go for a formation without vanguard or buy a recent vanguard to deal with them.

3.2.0 or 2.3.0 are useless compare to a 1.?.? with a valk for me coz valk got a good death mod who can help u a lot to defeat an hvi or muken . but its just my opinion . im an old player and vip ++ and im using a 2.2.1

I see nobody here has mentioned Void...

with a burn/poison zanpacto, in today's void (no block rate) having a vanguard can easily give you that much more burn/poison damage, even if you are too weak to deal that kind of damage with attacks

but yeah, I recently dropped my vanguard (again, lol) in favor of a 0-2-3 formation and really didn't notice that my 1.4M BP TSI was gone 9% of the time...

I didn't really want to bring Tenjiro back, but I did recognize I need to start building that third set like a supporters set...  plus now I can use Tenjiro more how he was intended (as kido cleanup) plus his mods aren't terrible (-20% enemy kido attack, ignore invinc)...

Vanguards are useless now. It's better to get 0-3-2 if you have the resources, and have around 10-11m bp raw.
Otherwise you likely won't survive with your 0-3-2

What are you saying early on, i still use that format in ryoka and ES XD
Forever f2p.
But yes what sol said is true early on even with zabimaru as zanpakto we couldnt deal much dmg but now even wambiske will suffice to do dmg in ES and ryoka.
