Bankai Kenpachi vs Sexy Kukaku

I know he's a better on defense and another on attack. Is that just a matter of preference? or can I make Bankai Ken a powerful defender?

My team is Muramasa, Hasch, Kirinji, B Renji and Komamura, lvl84. I want to buy RJ soon.

I'd like to buy Ken, but I hear he's a weak defender.

Or I can give up Ken and go straight to RJ and Kukaku after.

Thanks for the advice.
I already bought Bankai Ken and RJ. Substitute Kirinji for Shinso, and I intend to buy another orange partner to put in Shinso's place. I am still in doubt about buying Kokuto, Askin, BWB or SDT.

imo:

Kirinji is the first one to replace in any formation for those considering about topping up again!!! (even Cute, despite she only a golden Partner, is more usefull than him!!!!!)
for a reasonnable budget (less than 15k gold) any of the 0 div will do FAR better than this almost free partner (Nimaya awesome in pvp and void, Senju wonderfull in pve, Hiki very good for both pvp and pve).

Muramasa is a very good zanp and will do the job untill you can get RJ, so no need to rush (i don't have Rythen's natural talent to predict, but i bet RJ will be in UBP before mid 2019)

anyway, keep in mind VG is only for pvp (not for void anymore).
So a descently mounted Red Koma (ez to do without spending too much ressources) will also do the job untill you reach level above 100 (then your zanp will let you decide between offensive or defensive VG)

won't help, but Partner or zanp replacement mostly dépends on your server and your CSB pool... and most of all... on what YOU want to do :p

her attack isn't that great, but her def halo is super nice, she has great def, and she will help you live longer in Void, thus getting better rewards there, plus she is much cheaper from what I've seen...

after you get RJ and Sexy K, replace that trash Tenjiro for realz...  on a lower budget, Oetsu is a good choice with his good damage output, consistent AOE damage, sick mutilate, and speed halo...   on a higher budget, Kokuto or SDT would probably be your better bets ATM prob SDT is probably the better choice, as most of the tops in my CSB use Hasch + SDT and it seems to be a sick combo...  replace renji with Muken when you get him, and before that, be ready to pull your vang for a third assaulter in events...  aim for 30% total damage on ES and one shot Ryokas till the event stops!!

General rule of thumb

If your team is quick and fast killing, Bankai Kenpachi or Sexy Kukaku
If your team is slow but fast killing, Sexy Kukaku
If it is a slow-killing low-vip battle, probably Bankai Kenpachi, especially if you already will have a zanpakuto that gives defense.

Just note that Bankai Kenpachi is less effective against other RJ teams once their def buff is active
