Does he need counter stones as well or just block? If yes, why?

Block is just to block which reduces damage and causes a counter attack, while counter stones are the anti crit. So its a good idea to add those to Chad so the opponent doesnt get any crits on him.

yeah you need counter stones to stop the enemy from critting on him .
