Save for the next UBP, you might get around 9k vit if you are good at saving, and if the next UBP partners are crap do the Seireitei Attack and you will secure the rank 1 on it

UBP is totally worth it if you can handle the hardship of saving vitality.

BUT you can have your cake and eat it too

I saved up properly (no trials, no eve, no anything) until I had at least 10K vitality and then saved casually doing the odd trial and some evo and by the time seireitei came along I had 12K and enough spare vitality to spend a bit there. UBP came when I'd worked up another 1K so I had plenty to get Yama (who was completely worth it btw).

That said, I doubt there will be any great partners in UBP any time soon.  The best you'll get is Isshin and he's just so-so these days.

said very well, great answer, all though this is a very old thread xD

That being said, yeah, stones are important and all, but they won't save you from being let off with crap partners in the first place xD
