Shunsui might be nanao's dad at some point, he gave her zanpakuto spirit with one sword that looks like shunsui's zanpakuto. For example ichigo have similar zanpakuto to his dad(both know same skill getsuga tensho) and etc.

yea and another thing I don't understand is:

she yells please take my zanpakuto
then he says here's your zanpakuto

Didn't nanao have her own zanpakuto as well?
