Shin Grimmjow has better stats and skill growth rate (170% vs 80%). He fury attacks every round once started, so each round, you are doing 170% attack damage. He is effective against healing vanguards as well.

For events Grim hands down for pvp....Really depends on your set up. I mean you could in theory run a assualter killer formation with Ichigo, Lisa and yourself using 6th skill to knock out most of their damage within 2 turns, or switch out for a 2-2-1 formation and run grim for your anti heal, then momo for stun, rukia for even more fury regen for yourself and grim. But they are correct if you base it solely on Growth.

Each partner has its own perks and downsides. Use what suits you and what you can afford. There are a ton of advice though in the Guides section on the forums that cover 99% of the old topics and then you can judge for yourself.
