Bonding Question

I have Completed the requirement ( Beat # stage with 3 stars) for certain characters, have their bond partners,  even use them in bond battle but they don't activate ( Ex: Rangiku Matsumoto uses Nanao for a bond ability.  it says beat level 2 with all three stars.  Which i have and remaining HP is no less than 70%     i skip battle, look at stats and all my characters hp is 100%  the vanguard is like 96 or 98% but everyone else is 100% full HP.   Am i doing something wrong? is there an easier way at figuring out the data because i don't think the battle stats/battle log is helping me and i sorta suck at algebra
