you could just skip that and not do it till later on, i'm choosing to not use that feature atm because i'm saving for 80 gold partners its like not fortifying your gear to save silver.

gear can be forged later is true , but the attempts on the gohyoko will be lost ... im in your same situacion im about to be lvl80 and i only have 50M to try geting 1k reishi

it may be lost but imo its nbd thats the same as selling skill scorlls instead of saving them to get your 9th or 10th skill up really quickly. You delay other stuff to get your gold partners faster.
