Name and clan changing costs gold. I didn't have enough gold and tried to buy name change with coupons and said that I'd need gold.

I was debating myself what to do because I didn't know how I was going to get Rangiku due to lack of space, but then I just accidentally hired her and my space went to 15/14.

They do but because you get them as hired they don't go into your inventory, but straight into your team so they force your team's space to get bigger.
