Question about spirit stones

Is it better to have six level 4 strength stones on your main + assaulter + vanguard, or should you use these spirit stones to synthesize higher level ones and put it on your main? Also, what exact do I do with fury stones? Do I put them on Rukia or Urahara or my assaulters?

I usually do like... all lvl 8 until all characters has the same level then move up on my main first or any other characters that you like.
