300-400 mb ram for whole OS?
Actually, it's not so light afterall. Really ligthweight distros use 200-250mb (such as antiX for example) for 64bit system or 120-170mb for 32bit (again, antiX).
I personally use archlabs atm, it takes about 250 mb

Loved Ubuntu after using Redhat 2.0 But if you can develop it or upgrade it by yourself or some HR company you work in the tech guys can make it so however you want.
But for your Question no dont use for gaming purposes.

Ubuntu family is nice to go (i like MATE one most of them). I can't say any other is definitely better. I just like using AUR more than including different ppa.
Archlabs has terminal-based installer and post-intallation script. It's not difficult in any way, but it takes twice more time (like 30-40 mins or so) to install than most others distros.
If you're looking for light and easy to install distribution you may look at manjaro community releases (openbox, i3) or their flagship (xfce. I use this one on another machine and find it great )

Vanilla arch needs some knowledge and a lot of time to install it for sure. That doesn't go to arch-based distros. Most of them just provide easy or sort of easy installation of arch.
Over the years i used different distros (ubuntu, mint, mandriva, antix, opensuse) but since i tried out manjaro... Yes, AUR will make me use arch based distros to the end of my days . You're right, everything will go to arch.
