I can tell you this:
A level 5 hogu needs 50 talisman from level 9>10
A level 6 hogu needs 36 talisman from level 7>8
a level 7 hogu needs 42 talisman from level 7>8

Yes, the struggle is real.

I've maxed one tier 8 hogu, it takes 54 talisman from 9 to 10. But forgot to keep track of the previous levels

If its 42 Talisman from Lvl 7 > 8 and 54 from 9 > 10, then I think its in six steps.

So 6 Talisman from lvl 1 > 2
12 from 2 > 3
18 from 3 > 4
24 from 4 > 5
30 from 5 > 6
36 from 6 > 7
As above 42 from 7 > 8
48 from 8 > 9
And finally 54 from 9 > 10

For a total of 270 Talisman.

You are. The talismans you need dont go 6 per upgrade. It takes more and more. Besides the one I mentioned is a tier 8 hogu while brahamastra mentioned a tier 7 one. The ammount you need also increases depending on the tier of the hogu

For 64.5k Gold you get : 20 Fury Stones ; Lvl 8 Str,Wis,Agi,Sta ; 130 Hogu Talisman ; 2 Lvl 8 Hogu ; Lvl 9 Str,Wis,Agi,Sta ; Lvl 9 Stone Box ; Ulti Acc and Lvl 110 Ulti Set ; 10 Socket Stones ; 30 Purple Enchant Stones, and on top of that Shinso Gin.

Almost feels like it would be worth it, but well I ain't got the money for that.

i just know for tier 8 hogu, from +0 to +6 needs 100 hogu talismans in total..
+6 to +7 needs 40..
