Iron always lack in because of such slow production of it >_< hard to get to even 1k a hour. .

Food on my account that i tried to level fast i kept running out of it due to constantly fighting every 2-5 minutes >_<.

Wood I started running out when i got to higher levels but i upped my wood production to around 5.2k per hour and used free worship bonuses on wood only to keep wood supply up.

My main goals when i level is make sure wood is leveled pretty early that way can get better worship bonus for it and then when world maps opens bring up food production and barrack speed to start getting a lot of xp from fighting and doing trial tower asap to get xp bonus from there.

looking over benefits i think ViP 6 is probably best option if your going to invest in game long time but if still unsure how long your going to be there ViP  3 seems pretty good too (get world chat / extra hero training slot bunch of free stuff too at vip 3)

I'm probably going to stay f2p and see how it goes

as usual... at the start of the game... i ma goin to pass my id to ...

yeah sub id's are good because you can stall attacks during city wars by sending them to gates and keep auto off
keeps enemy army stalled and lets your army progress faster.
