You will still have them on your inventory, but you can't use them in formation if they are expired. The event is only there to give you the ability to rent a partner for the first time.
The benefits of lease are
a)You can continue hiring em even if the event is over
b)You can still modify a partner if he is expired.
c)As mentioned above, you can use him for bond even if expired
