Question regarding block

So, there's one thing I've been unclear of about the damage reflected back to the attacker when blocking.

Let me make a little scenario to help my question a little more clear:

Attacker: Kido based
Defender: Physical based

Attacker attacks an Defender.
Defender blocks and returns damage.

Is the damage returned to attacker, Kido, as it was the origin of the damage,? Or, is the damage physical?  (as the person blocking and returning attack deals physical attack)

I didn't see this answered anywhere, sorry if it was already asked.

I believe it would return physical damage.  If I remember correctly, somebody told me that, when you attack a defender, vanguard mostly, if vg blocks, it's basically as if the vanguard would be attacking you.  That's the block damage basically.
