can you name good events for when to top up?
also, is there an event where you can top a certain amount and get double the vip exp?

ex: vip4 needs 2k gold, lets say I'm vip0 and top up 1k gold at once, then it gets doubled to 2k = vip4

there is no event like that and there never will be as for events that are good to top up anytime you see gold wheel, make money and supervalue gift at the same time top up then. You will be making 30% more + 15% and what ever you roll on gold wheel. other events to spend your gold on, super discount frenzy is a good one and probably one of the better one right now. if you need a partner drop 350$ on lucky turntable grab berserk renji or kensei.

As of October of 2015, bonus gold does not count to VIP status.  only the base 90 gold the game gives, plus the purchased gold you get through top up.
