It would have been cheaper doing 2000 gold a day during the 2nd tab duration hence why he said 2k X 6 = 12k although you only have till the reset and next reset to make those purchases for the bonus gold^^^
if you were to top up now it would still cost you $250-300 alone just for 1 partner including the 30% rebate
imo wait for a better event.
20k gold wasted on a 12k worth partner isnt worth it at all with 20k gold total you would be 4k away form purchasing 2 partners worth 12k each or senjumaru herself

My advice to you is top up 2k right now 2k at reset
if you want top up 12k total and keep the gold for an event were they are worth 12k each

Good point.  I guess this is for those who can top that amount.  For people who have like 8k gold saved or can top max 8k gold, this event is not good.

12k gold. But you need to top up 2000 gold for 6 times. The New Year fund DOES NOT reset on daily basis. It's unlimited. But you need to make sure that you topup 2k gold a time and claim the New Year Fund afterward because they do not stack. Then you can topup another 2k gold until you reach 12k gold. But be sure to claim your fund before doing another topup. Another thing is if you're using One Click Open which is gonna cost you 600 gold per click, then you're gonna basically need 600 gold x 34 clicks = 20,400 gold/points without taking into consideration of the amount of Red Packets you're gonna get. TL;DR, from my personal experience 12k gold is enough for you to get any partner for 20k points.

The fund does not reset on daily basis. You can basically topup 2k gold for 100 times in a single day and still be able to claim your 500-1000 gold for 100 times.

its better to just top up but not use the gold since its a waste of gold for a 20k partner thats actual value is 12k

12k gold is enough to get the partner.  That is total top up too, I'm guessing.  Still a bit too expensive, for those who can top up to 8k.

ah, now this makes sense, very clever.  But don't you get points for topping up?  If you topped 2k X 6 as you all say, Do you get any extra points?  Or is the point solely based on red packets and gold spent?

you only gain points for buying the one click open all and 10 points per refresh
the packets are just a small bonus
so no bonus for topping up other than collecting your espada treasure lol..
but yes i recommend topping up 2k at a time as much as you want/need and keep all the gold for
a better event
