In Protect Seireitei, the longer you hold the defending spot, the more damage you take from fireballs. The fireballs are what damage you, not the attacking team if you can kill them easily. If you let them take the win, it will reset the level of the fireballs when you take it back.

You don't see the fireballs actually attack you. Next time you enter Protect Seireitei, you will see a small icon that says Fireball level#, the level of Fireball is determined by how may days you have held the defensive spot. The higher the level the more automatic damage you take.
