So my gf wanted me to run her account for awhile and she has byakuya and Yamamoto but she's running a 1-2-2 team at the moment her formation is MC(Arrancar), Soph Ran, SWP Toshiro, Tenjiro and Yamamoto with Muramasa

Yamamoto is an upgraded version of Byakuya (and that's why i swapped my Byakuya to Yama from UBP kiddos), go for it.
But in void, Byakuya is a beast with his deathmode, if he deals more damage than Yama's burn.

at this point in the game, I'd say Byaukua is better...  his exclusive skill is easy to get and is amazing for pve, something Yama can't boast

Why not use both? Tavern byakuya for his death mod, yama for 1st strike.

byakuya in pve WITH exclusive (except for void where his normal skill is better)

Exactly what I was thinking. I'd totally go ukitake/byakuya  if I was a f2p/low vip, getting ukitake lvl30ex then stacking Bya. I'm not that into Yama, and there's sooooo many out there. Byakuya's death mod is such a great asset for void, so 100% byakuya.

well I have to agree that's the only bad thing about Yama:
everyone (outside high VIP) has him in formation

... same goes with Tensa now

after getting exclusive (which isn't too hard for tavern partners) and 5th mod (takes a while for f2p but it is worth it) byakuya stomps yama in both regular PvE and void while difference between them in PvP isn't that big (even smaller if you take in account additional resources you can get from PvE thanks to boost from byakuya). Also byakuya in PvP is more versatile thanks to death mod, so if in future your gf gets some other character and decides to stack him byakuya will be still very useful as suicidal bomb (and in PvE and void as well of course) while yamamoto won't work that great in PVP  if he isn't main focus of player (and will remain rather useless in regular PvE and void). So personally if I were f2p I would definitely focus on byakuya rather than yama (whom I wouldn't even get from soul cultivation tbh) but it also depends on resources already spent on both of them (mainly their exclusive lvl) and situation in the server. For example if your void is full of monsters and you can't even get close to top10 then it eliminates one of bya's advantages.

id go with tavern Bya as other have mentioned it and at exc level 50 you already be on 2nd upgrade of ex skill wow that damage potential.
