Does anyone know the difference between the two situations? why the death mod bypassed invincibilty in one case but not in the other?

Haven't I told that before here ? Erm whatever.
Short answer : Chaosed death modder bypasses invincibility.
Theorically when an enemy is chaosed, he becomes your ally thus able to go through your invincibility and the latter protects from the enemies' attacks only.

It is not working as intended imo.
Chaos is meant to attack enemy only, kinda like mind control. Not turn enemies into allies.

Fight is limited to 20 rounds. Whoever has more hit points left in the end is a winner. That rule goes to most pvp, only exception i know of is Hueco Mondo Attack.
