Also...  something important that hasn't been mentioned here...   evolve and modify...   don't keep switching and keeping new partners to get stronger...   you will whoop most unevolved, unmodified tavern gold party with a purple one with full mods and evos of the same level...   your partners grow so insanely much more powerful with these features that it just isn't funny.  Pick your formation,  pick your party,  and invest in them...   you can take 7 day gold ichi, fully evo him, fully mod him, moderatly outfit him, and he will obliterate any of the partners listed here when you first get them up to his level...   And Ichi is very weak for a gold partner...

Obviously Ikkaku for PVE and kaname for PVP. TBH i wouldn't bother getting tosen.
