Mayuri revealed a couple of chapters ago his modified bankai...so it isn't impossible for Shunsui to have another version or half of his bankai that hasn't been shown yet...

Even Ichigo and Renji have proven that a false bankai can be achieved and used in battle - Renji's initial bankai was revealed to not be his true one, and similar story for Ichigo whose true shikai has been revealed and now he still has to unveil his true bankai. Both characters have used their false bankais effectively for pretty much the entire series, so that shows they can have decent fighting power even if they're not using the true or full bankai.

So only 1 bankai possibility per zanpakuto and per character doesn't fit with what the manga has shown us in the more recent chapters

Yes. Mayuri modified his Zanpakuto. He is also probably the 3rd most intelligent character in the entire series and no one else has done anything remotely close to that.

Having false bankai =/= having more then one bankai. Renji cannot go back to his previous Bankai whenever he wants. Once you attain the new level, that is your level. To assume that Shunsui, who is more then 2000 years old mind you, could go to a unrefined version of his bankai from, say, 1500 years ago, is absurd and not at all how power level or just general SHONEN works.

Lastly, having 1 bankai is literally all we have been shown in the ENTIRE manga. We have 10+ years worth of evidence that supports it. Making your assumption is basically like saying that the earth is the center of the universe. We cannot technically disprove it, but literally all the evidence we do have points in the opposite direction. Here, I will make some absolutely ludicrous statements following your logic.

Aizen is Ichigo's biological father.
Rukia is a man.
Chad is the strongest character in the serious.

You cannot disprove any of them. They could be true. They are just as insane as what you are suggesting.

I think what the OP was saying was "this can't be all to Shunsui's bankai", kind of like Byakuya's...he also has different levels of his bankai, the normal senbon, then he revealed a further development of senbon to Ichigo after rukia's near-execution, and then the Hakutaiken (probably spelling it wrong, don't care). And yes he's also been around a long time and more than likely has refined his bankai.

I'm not suggesting Shunsui is using an old version of his bankai, I was just noting that bankai's don't have only 1 form, they can change. So seeing as Shunsui has only just begun to fight, and is the oldest and therefore knows his bankai extremely well, he probably also has different levels that he can utilise it at.

Unless you're suggesting that Byakuya is way more powerful than Shunsui because the former can control his bankai release and the latter can't....whoops, there goes my insane again.

And hey, who knows? Maybe Rukia is a man.
