Shouldn't it be bankai like my others?

I'm having a slightly different problem. I'm filling up the bar (I've done it to the point where my Reiatsu level is 17) and someone told me at some point my Zanpakuto is supposed to go from "Original" to "Shikai" and yet it hasn't done it yet. Am I doing something wrong, is there a trick to it? I'm cultivating souls as well as receiving them from spirit chests and such, and I'm "Soul Cultivating" and "Gold Cultivating" my butt off to get my Zanpakuto, any Zanpakuto though I've been with Wabisuke the longest, into Shikai mode, but it isn't working. Please, any help and/or answers would be appreciated.
