Are strength stones necessary for a tank VG? Right now I have strength, stamina, hit rate, block, break d., and counter stones mainly with 2 wisdom stones (48%) to fill remaining slots.

they provide physical def and that's definitely what you want on your tank vg ^^

90% counter, 90% block, full set of good str stones, full set of good wis stones, full set of good stamina stones, this is a good start to a tank vg

On my vanguard I use :
6*strength
6*wisdom
6*stamina
3*break def (90%) , 3* counter (90%)
4*crit (80%)
4*block (80%)
4*hit rate (120%)
I get the last 10% of block and crit from the set (lvl 140 pudo set)
