I'm not sure whether I need to get him to replace yama in pvp, and tavern kenny in pve or not... Any ideas?

white ichi vs yama...  ich should win in every instance
whit ichi vs red tavern kenpachi...   kenny almost definitely wins vs ES or Ryoka, especially if your block stones aren't all maxed on middle row, Ichi wins elsewhere hands down

If you have enough gold to afford Shin Isshin Kurosaki, he is a much better choice.

I'm just using the 10 candies from KTF to rent Shin Isshin for 2 weeks, and i would recommend this guy to do the same. Works well with my Muken I guess :/

Will take like 12 KTF rotations to fully purchase him tho lmao
