If it's an aura, then the stat is boosted only in battle, not in the stat panel.
And when the partner with an aura dies, the aura stops affecting your team, the same rule goes to everyone who have an aura (SuiFeng, Oetsu, Shunsui... with 10% SPD, Koga with -100% hit rate...) so if you want to use often that 15% block aura, make Mugetsu tanky enough to not die too often/earlier !

perfect information... I've been wondering if auras stopped when that partner died... if two partners have the same aura (kido speed +10% for instance) they don't stack rather overwrite, correct? however if you have 2x different ones (kido speed + 10% and All speed +10%) they do stack, correct?

If it is
"Add 10% extra speed to all allies" on two partners of your team, it adds on, rather than being overwritten.
It is unlikely that it is any different with the "kido speed +10%" you talk about, + I know there's probably only Shinso Gin who gives Kido speed and everyone else adds 10% extra speed to all allies.
