What you mean upgrade him? The red tavern won't be released, that's why they are selling all red partners for $ and not red reishi. If you have Byakuya, then i would say that you should stack him and keep him instead of Yamamoto.
The strongest f2p player i have ever seen uses a fully modded tavern Byakuya, his dmg is incredibly high and he is always top 5 in void region vs people that are VIP 8, 9 and 10.The reason for that is that his Deathmod is OP as fuck if you stack him enough xD
